It’s hard to believe we have only a few days left in 2015.  What a great year it has been!  As the last message of the year, I would like to take this opportunity to share my gratitude and appreciation for the hard work, enthusiasm and continued support that has been demonstrated by the entire staff.  Everyone in all departments – from our Professional Staff (Staff 1’s to the PICs) to the IT Department, Finance, Collections, Human Resources and Marketing – have been running on all cylinders and putting forth best efforts, keeping our firm on a positive trajectory towards even greater heights in 2016.

Our clients, communities and the influencers in our profession are noticing, giving Withum high rankings in prestigious lists such as Accounting Today’s Best Accounting Firms to Work For; NJBIZ’s Best Places to Work in New Jersey for the eleventh consecutive year; Crain’s Best Places to Work in New York City for a third year in a row; Best Places to Work for in New York State for a third year; Inside Public Accounting’s Top 50 Firms ranking #28 in the country and #6 in the Northeast; Vault Accounting 50 ranking #15; and for a fourth year, New Jersey Law Journal’s “The Best of” Reader Polls winning in three different categories in 2015. Our philanthropic initiatives have also been recognized, being named a “Great Oak Awards Finalist” by New Jersey Monthly honoring the state’s most generous companies; winning a Philadelphia Business Journal Corporate Giving Award in its “Hands On Initiative” category for Withum Week of Caring; and being a finalist in CIANJ’s Companies that Care program. I sincerely thank you for your outstanding efforts.

The cornerstone of our success is truly the loyal and talented professionals who work here every day.  At Withum, our culture and commitment to providing a great work environment allows our professionals to grow and thrive in their careers, and also having some fun while doing so.  The Withum Way philosophy is indeed alive and well.  I hope you are looking forward to the big things ahead being launched at our State of the Firm event on January 11th as much as I am. There will be plenty of good things to share and celebrate, demonstrating why our firm continues to be one of the best places to work in the profession.

I wish you a very Happy, Healthy and Prosperous 2016!

I trust you all had a fantastic holiday weekend and spent some quality time with your families.

Yesterday, marked the first day of a new fiscal year.  Many believe a new year brings about new opportunities, and that is certainly the case at our firm. We pride ourselves on creating an atmosphere where professionals can be entrepreneurial and follow their professional passion, developing their careers to the level they want to achieve. I’m thrilled to share the following:

Effective July 1, our Philadelphia office has a new Partner-in-Charge. Please join me in congratulating Eric Strauss, CPA, CGMA, PSA, Partner, as he transitions into the leadership role of this important major city office. Eric has over 20 years of public accounting experience and is a licensed CPA in New Jersey and the commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He specializes in providing audit, tax and consulting services, including matters related to Board Governance, to not-for-profit organizations throughout the Northeast. Eric also provides audit services to and for government entities at the federal, state and city level, and personally knows many of Philadelphia’s movers and shakers.

Some more great news for the Philadelphia office… Nancy Davis, the Partner-in-Charge of our Silver Spring, MD, office, has retired effective July 1. With Silver Spring being home to a small group of Government Services specialists, we decided we could more effectively manage the practice from the Philadelphia office. Thus, the Silver Spring office is officially closed. All of the professional staff from that office will remain with the firm, working remotely for a majority of the time, but occasionally making the trip to Philadelphia for office and client meetings. We are very excited about the future our Philadelphia office.

Additionally, WithumSmith+Brown remains committed to growing its corporate leadership team, promoting three senior managers to partner level effective July 1. This year’s advancing class includes: Michael M. Kulick, CPA, MBA; Nicole D. Lyons, CPA/CFF, CVA; and David J. Poillucci, CPA, MST.

Michael Kulick is a member of the firm’s Manufacturing, Distribution & Logistics and Employee Benefits Services groups. He has over a decade of public accounting experience including auditing, financial statement preparation and analysis as well as business consulting with a focus on private and publicly-held entities. Mike provides accounting and auditing services to clients in the manufacturing, distribution, ERISA, technology and retail industry sectors.

Nicole Lyons is a member of the firm’s Litigation, Valuation and Insolvency Services Group. With expertise in business valuation and forensic accounting, Nicole specializes in shareholder/partner disputes, matrimonial litigation and damage assessment engagements. Court-appointed on numerous cases, Nicole has testified in Superior Court and in arbitration.

David Poillucci specializes in tax planning and compliance for C-corporations, S-corporations and Partnerships. He is an active member of the firm’s Tax Services Group and concentrates his efforts on special projects such as tax law research, tax audit representation and working with multistate clients. Dave has industry expertise in manufacturing, restaurant services, mortgage banking and with aviation FBO/charter operators.

Please join me in congratulating our three newly promoted partners. I look forward to the New Partner celebration scheduled for September 17.

Witnessing the talent and professional growth seen with these Withum professionals underscores my optimistic vision of the future of our firm… and our future is very bright.
